Public Open Space
Open space, public squares and landscape areas within the proposal site account for 4.57 hectares, which equates to 15% of the developable area on the Pit Yard site. A number of urban spaces are proposed in the Pit Yard masterplan as well as potential links to the former Spoil Heap on the northern side of the railway, where it is hoped an open area for leisure and recreation will be approved through the full application that has been submitted in conjunction with the application. It is considered that the combination of these spaces across the site and the provision that will be available on the former Spoil Heap site is more than appropriate for the scale and nature of development proposed and will provide a valuable resource of public open spaces for the wider population to utilise.
